Participation in Adhik Mass rituals at Haridwar

JAMMU, Sept 17: President, Jammu Yatri Bhawan Trust, Pawan Kumar Shastri today said that “Purushottam-Mass/ Mal-Mass/Adhik Mass” is an extra month in the Hindu Calendar that is inserted to keep the Lunar and Solar calendars aligned. Purushottam-Mass is an epithet to Lord Vishnu Ji to whom this month is dedicated. The position of “Purushottam-Mass/ Mal-Mass/Adhik Mass” amongst the other months is variable, which comes after every 32 months 16 days 4 Ghari period, said Shastri while talking to reporters along with other trustees here.
He said in 2020, Adhik Ashwin (extra month Ashwin) will be from September 18 to October 16. It is a time for prayers, fasting, charity and self-improvement. He further said that during this holy month Daan-Puniya, Yag-Havan, Jap-Tap, Vrat so performed in Ganga Ji Ghat will yield good fruits for the devotees and thus it is called Moksh Dayak (salvation) month. However, during this month carrying functions such as Vivah (marriages), Mundan ceremonies, Grah Parvesh, purchase of land, construction of houses and all other auspicious ceremonies are prohibited said Shastri.
He further said that Adhik- Mass is different from regular months because it does not have a Sankranti ( the movement of the Sun from one Rashi/Zodiac to the other). Every typical Lunar month has one Sankranti, but the Adhik-Mass does not have any. He further said that during this year from September 17 to October 16, there will be Ashwin Adhik-Mass which means two Ashwins, that all the festivals after ” Shradda Paksha” like Navratri, Dussera, Deepawali etc will start after 20-25 days.

Pawan Shastri said Jammu Yatri Bhawan Trust as like in the previous occasions this time also is making elaborate arrangements for performing all “Dharmik” programme in its Haridwar Bhawan with great pomp and show for which a Bhajan-Satsang Mandli from Bindraban will perform Bhajans,Satsang/Kiertan (Jaap) during this entire month of Lord Vishnu . In addition to this, Trust is also going to conduct “Mahamantra Jaap” for whole of the month which will be performed by the learned Pandits, devotees who would like to become a “Jajman” and shall become a part for performing “Mahamantra Jaap” for the prosperity of their families and the universe as whole and for seeking blessing of Lord Vishnu are most welcome, he added.
