Yatris on Sindhu Darshan reach Jammu

JAMMU, June 18:  Two batches comprising around 300 pilgrims will leave Jammu tomorrow for their onward journey for Sindhu Darshan at Leh from June 23 to 26.
These pilgrims, arriving from different parts of the country, were welcomed here today by the Sindhu Darshan Yatra Samiti.
A function in this regard was held at Government College for Women Parade wherein MLA and BJP State president Jugal Kishore Sharma along with  Col MZU Siddique and  Prof Laxmi Narayan welcomed the yatris.
On the occasion, a cultural programe was also held.
Meanwhile, Sindhu Darshan Yatra Samiti highlighted the significance and history of the event by organizing a press conference, here today.
Addressing the media persons,  Sudesh Pal, a representative of the Samiti along with other members,  informed  that the yatra was started about seventeen years ago in 1995 by  L K Advani  but the then Government stopped this pilgrimage  in 2004. In 2006 a committee was formed under the name of All India Sindhu Darshan Yatra Samiti for restarting the pilgrimage, he added.
“Main purpose of this yatra is  to bring Leh in main stream and this year about 1000 tourist are expected to reach here for the Sindhu Darshan,” he said.
The organizers of Sindhu Darshan Yatra Samiti  demanded that Mansrovar Yatra should be started via Leh. They also demanded that Boti language should be promoted and included in  eighth schedule of the Indian constitution.
