JAMMU, Nov 18: Er Dinesh Gupta, HoD (CSE/IT) of Yogananda College of Engineering & Technology (YCET) was invited by St Joseph University Dimapur, Nagaland to conduct a session on “Innovation in Communication using Optical Fibres”.
This activity was conducted under IIC Driven Activity which is under Institutions Innovation Council- a MHRD Govt of India Initiative. Er Dinesh Gupta conducted this season today.
The session was started with the history of Telecommunication and different modes of communication, comparison of different types of communication with Optical Fibre Communication, its advantages and disadvantages.
Er Dinesh Gupta discussed that the communication using optical fiber cable is a technique of transmitting data from one location to another by transmitting light waves. At present, these cables are used for communication like sending images, voice messages, etc. The designing of these cables can be done with plastic or glass so that the data can be transmitted effectively and quickly than copper cables.
He further informed that there are many advantages by using these cables over other types of communication cables e.g. bandwidth of these cables is high, less vulnerable than metal cables to interference, less thin, lighter, and the data can be transmitted in the form of digitally. The design considerations of these cables mainly include appearance, ruggedness, durability, tensile strength, flammability, size, range of temperature, and its flexibility, he added.
