PUNJAB, Apr 25: JKPCC general secretary and Former Minister Yogesh Sawhney, who is currently working as AICC ‘Observer’ for Anandpur Sahib Parliamentary Constituency in Punjab where former Union Minister Manish Tewari is contesting as Congress candidate, held a series of interactions and meetings in connection with elections campaigning.
Accompanied by PPCC Secretary Gulshan Rai Passi, Mr Sawhney visited Nawashahr, Punjab to interact with Municipal Councillors of the town, including Chairman, MC Lalit Mohan Pathak. He interacted with senior Congress leaders including K P Rana (Speaker Punjab Vidhan Sabha), Barinder Dhillon (Distt president Ropar) and former presidents Distt Congress Committee Mr Saini, Vijay Sharma, Amarjiit Saini, Angad Saini and others.
While addressing a press conference at PCC Office, Rupnagar, Mr Sawhney highlight the vision of Mr Tewari for the constituency. He urged the people to vote and support Mr Tewari, calling him the deserving candidate. He also clarified that Manish Tewari is not an “outsider”, highlighting he had been an MP from the adjoining Ludhiana constituency and later a Union Minister during Manmohan Singh’s Government.
Drawing attention towards the Tewari family legacy of serving the nation, Mr Sawhney informed that the former’s maternal grandfather, Sardar Tirath Singh too was an advocate and Minister in the Congress Government in Punjab. “His father Dr V N Tiwari, a Professor in the Department of Punjabi at Punjab University, has written more than 40 books in Punjabi. He was killed by militants in 1984,” he said adding that Mr Tewari belongs to Punjab and is dedicated to its development.
