Young girl killed as truck hits scooty

JAMMU, June 6: A 24-year-old girl was killed today in a road accident falling under the jurisdiction of Police Post Sidhra.
“The deceased was identified as Poonam Jamwal daughter of Ashok Singh, resident of Khanpur,” police sources said. They said mishap occurred this morning at about 7: 30 near Tawi bridge in Sidhra area when a truck bearing registration number JK03J-3501 (on way from Nagrota towards Sidhra) hit the scooty bearing registration number JK02BL-0817 from the rear side while taking turn.
Sources said in the mishap scooty rider Poonam Jamwal received grievous injuries. They said the injured girl was immediately rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, where she succumbed around 9:40 AM. “After postmortem, the body of the deceased was handed over to her legal heirs for last rites while a case in this connection was registered at Police Station Nagrota and further investigation started,” they added.
They further said that both the vehicles involved in the mishap were seized and the accused truck driver namely Mudassar Ahmed son of Manzoor Ahmed, resident of Waripora (Ganderbal) arrested.
Meanwhile, a pedestrian namely Sanjeev (45) son of Baldev Raj, resident of Vijaypur, was hit and critically injured by a rashly driven motorcycle at Satwari near petrol pump. The injured man was shifted to GMCH Jammu for medical treatment while concerned police had taken cognizance of the matter.
