JAMMU, Aug 7: A young girl appeared to have been raped and murdered and her body thrown into Niki Tawi river, which was recovered from Raipur this afternoon under the jurisdiction of Satwari police station.
The 18 to 19 years old girl has not been identified but she appeared to be non-local, police said.
Civilians observed the body floating in Niki Tawi river and informed police, which seized the body.
SP South Rajeshwar Singh and SHO Satwari Inspector Hassan Kamaal rushed to the spot and called FSL, crime and photo experts, who examined the scene.
Police said the girl had multiple marks of injuries over the body.
“It was being investigated as to whether the girl had been raped and murdered,’’ police said. The body has been sent to the GMC Jammu for identification and post-mortem.
Police also recovered the dead body of a police constable from Ranbir Canal at Jeevan Nagar near Satwari this morning. It was identified as that of Kuldeep Raj, constable, son of Pritam Singh R/o Marmat Goha in Doda district.
He was posted at Canal police post and was absent for the past few days.
