KATHUA, May 16: A young woman allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at her residence at Fallapur Village in Hiranagar area under mysterious circumstances.
Neelam Kumari wife of Popinder Kumar of Village Fallapur consumed poisonous substance today, a police official said.
He said the woman was taken to Government Medical College Kathua where she breathed her last.
The mother of the victim blamed her daughter’s in-laws for harassing her on one or the other pretext, thus forcing her for taking such an extreme step to end her life.
“For long, my daughter was harassed by her in-laws on one or the other pretext. She was also facing physical torture. I advised her several times to lodge police complaint against her in-laws but she didn’t. She was beaten today as well, which forced her consume poison,” she said.
The family members of the deceased woman demanded a fair investigation into the matter.
Police in Hiranagar have registered a case under the relevant sections of the law and started further investigation into the matter.
