JAMMU, Dec 23: A youth allegedly attempted to rape a teenaged girl in Chigani area, falling under the jurisdiction of Gharota Police Station.
Police spokesman said that, Gian Singh, son of Shinda and residence of Ranjan, who is driver by profession, barged into the house of the victim and took her forcibly to the nearby forest area in Chigani.
The teenager raised an alarm following which locals rushed to the spot, but the accused managed to escape.
A case under Sections 376, 511 of RPC has been registered at Gharota Police Station and a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the accused, who was at large, till reports came in.
