RAJOURI, July 30: A 25-year-old youth hailing from remote Targain area of Budhal committed suicide after jumping into a lake in Pir Panjal ranges, about 12 kms from Budhal in district Rajouri, after parents of a girl of the same area leveled rape charge against him and local Panchayat passed a most humiliating `Fatwa’ against the boy.
Reports said that the dead body of the youth identified as Fazal Hussain (a Post Graduate), son of Mohd Abdullah, resident of Targain, was recovered from `Samsar Sar’ ( lake) on the higher reaches of Budhal in Pir Panjal today. Some nomads, having `Dhoks’ in the area, saw the body of the youth floating on the lake and they dragged it with the help of a rope at the bank and then informed Budhal Police.
His identity could be established with his mobile phone in which he had recorded his message for the family and Police/ Administration. In his recorded message before suicide, the youth has said that one Mohd Rafiq and his family members alleged that he has committed rape on their daughter, which is totally baseless. They called our family and him and abused in a local Panchayat. It was decided to settle the issue by exchanging money.
” I refused to pay any money and pleaded that no rape has been committed on the girl. I also told them to go for Medical examination of the girl and initiate legal proceedings under law of the land, then they pressurised me to drink the urine of the girl in presence of Panchayat which was most humiliating for me. I asked for two day’s time to get the escape route from there and decided to commit suicide as I was being dragged in a false case which was most humiliating for me and my family,” the Youth in recording said.
The youth also kept a message for his mother and the family claiming that he was innocent and had done nothing wrong. He had also approached the Moulvi to intervene but he too, did not help in this case.
Meanwhile, the police has registered a case in this connection. The body has been brought to Budhal late this evening. The investigation has been launched.
