Youth dies, 3 injured due to electric current

RAMBAN, Feb 16: A 20 year-old youth was electrocuted to death, while three others received burn injuries in Bradghari village, this morning.
As per police sources, Riyaz Ahmed (20), son of Ghulam Mohammad of village Bradghari came in contact with electric wires this morning at his residence.
On hearing the cries of Riyaz Ahmed, the three others present in the house identified as Farooq Ahmed (22), son of Abdul Rashid, Naseema Begum (27), wife of Abdul Qayoom and Gulzara Begum (50), wife of Abdul Rashid tried to save him and also received burn injuries.
After getting information, locals and police rushed to the spot and shifted the burn victims to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Banihal, where doctors declared Riyaz Ahmed as brought dead.
As the news of the death of the youth due to electric shock spreaded, the locals blocked the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway at Makerkote, protesting against the alleged negligence of the Power Development Department (PDD).
The protestors kept the body of the deceased on road and demanded action against the officials responsible for the loss of life due to their alleged negligence.
They added that the incident occurred allegedly after the PDD increased the electricity supply in domestic lines to 440 volts from the normal 220 volts.
SDM Ramsu and SDPO Banihal rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the protestors, but failed.
Later DC Ramban, SSP Ramban and officials of the PDD reached the spot and assured action against the officials behind the incident.
On the assurance, the protestors dispersed and the vehicular movement was restored on the National Highway.
Meanwhile, a case under FIR Number 28/16 under Section 304-A and 337 RPC has been registered against PDD and investigation started.
