Youth drowns, another rescued from Beiani river

KATHUA, Oct 18: A youth drowned in flash flood of Beiani river in Dheota area of tehsil Machhedi in Kathua district last night while another was rescued with hard efforts by the local people.
As per reports both persons were on way to their village and while crossing the Beiani river which was in spate due to heavy rains that lashed Jammu region during past two days they were entangled in swift current of water and taken away to a long distance. One youth was rescued by local people with hard efforts while another drowned in the strong current of the river. The person who was rescued has been identified as Mohider Kumar, son of Bhagu of Dehota. The body of another youth was found early this morning by local people which was shifted to hospital for legal formalities.
The deceased was identified as Kamlesh Kumar, son of Govind Ram resident of Dehota ,Machhedi.
The BDC Baggan Nisha Thakur expressed grief over the tragedy. She also expressed sympathy with bereaved family. She said the unfortunate incident took place due to non- construction of bridge over the river which has been a long pending public demand of the people.
She said in recent past unfortunate incident of two minor girls were reported and they also drowned in Beiani river. She asked the Government to take serious note of such incidents and construct a bridge on Beiani river immediately so that precious lives are saved.
