Youth drowns in canal; accident victim succumbs

JAMMU, Sept 12: A youth drowned in Ranbir Canal in Toph area while an accident victim today succumbed to his injuries at Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu.
According to a police official, a 26-year-old youth namely Kewal Kumar son of Hans Raj, resident of Ramnagar (at present residing in Toph Sherkhanian area) had drowned last evening in Ranbir Canal near Canal Head area. He said that the deceased had gone to take bath in the canal with his friends.
“The body of the deceased was recovered today from the canal at a distance of about 500 meters from the drowning point,” he said, adding, after getting conducted postmortem at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu, the body was handed over to his legal heirs for last rites.
Meanwhile, a man namely Dimple Kumar son of Des Raj, resident of Vijaypur (Samba), who was under treatment here at GMCH Jammu since September 8 following a road mishap at Hiranagar in which he had received serious injuries, succumbed to his injuries at about 2:40 PM. After postmortem, the body of the deceased was handed over to his legal heirs for last rites while the concerned police had taken cognizance of the matter.
