KATHUA, Aug 4: A youth drowned in Ranjit Sagar Dam at Purthu picnic spot in Basholi while taking a bath with his friends today.
The Sunday being a holiday, a large number of people and tourists enjoy the picnic at Purthu site in Basholi dam. Some of them were taking the bath to beat the heat. But a 23 year old youth identified as Sanjay Kumar @Sanju S/o Suraj Parkash, R/o Rehan, Basohli, Kathua slipped in deep waters and drowned while taking a bath in the dam. The locals present there tried to search him but all in vain.
Later a team of Civil Defence and SDRF component under the Supervision Dy. SP Ramnish Kumar Sharma, Dy. Controller Civil Defence Kathua reached on the spot and started search operation. After hard efforts of the team the body of youth was fished out from waters of the dam late in the evening and handed over to family members.
It is pretent to mentioned here that numbers of such incidents took place in Purthu Pinic point due to lack of safety measures and ignorance of advisory by the visitors.
The body has been kept at SDH, Basholi and it will be handed over to family for last rites tomorrow after postmortem.
