KATHUA, June 10: A youth drowned in Kathua canal while his cousin had a narrow escape after the duo was taking a bath in the canal at Maggar Khad area.
As they were taking a bath the duo was flown by the strong current of water in the middle of the canal. A passer by however rescued one of them who has been identified as Manga Masie. He threw piece of cloth in the canal of which the youth caught hold and was rescued.
However his cousin identified as Suraj Kadyal, 20, son of Chhaan Masie drowned in the canal. A police team led by SHO, Police Station, Kathua, Amit Sangra rushed to the spot and fished out the body. It was later rushed to District Hospital, Kathua but the doctors declared him as brought dead. The police recorded statement of cousin of the deceased youth who was with him and handed over the dead body to family for postmortem.
This is the second incident of drowning in the Kathua canal during this week.
