Youth injured in timber smugglers assault

Srinagar, July 12: A youth was injured after he was attacked by a group of timber smugglers at Zatchaldara area of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district last evening.
Sources said a 22-year-old youth identified as Bilal Ahmad Hajam, son of Ghulam Ahmad Hajam, objected to a group of smugglers from cutting green gold in the forest area of Dhoon in Zatchaldara village. After being objected the group of smugglers attacked the youth with an axe, sources said. The youth received serious head injuries.
Meanwhile, the locals of the area immediately shifted the injured youth to nearby hospital where from he was referred to SKIMS Soura for specialized treatment.
A senior police official said they have registered and three people have been arrested. “Further probe is on,” he said.
