JAMMU, May 7: A youth today committed suicide allegedly by jumping into River Chenab from new bridge, Akhnoor.
“A 27-year-old youth identified as Kishore Kumar son of Babu Ram, a resident of Kote in Gharota area today jumped into River Chenab and fell into the shallow waters,” police sources here said.
They said that the passersby raised an alarm following which locals rushed to the spot and after hectic efforts managed to fish out the man in unconscious condition from the waters at Jia Potta area of Akhnoor.
“The victim was shifted to Sub District Hospital, Akhnoor, where he expired during treatment. The body of the deceased was shifted to mortuary room of the hospital for conducting postmortem”, they said, adding a case in this connection was registered at police station Gharota and further investigations were underway.
