SRINAGAR, Feb 21: Security forces have launched searches in Sopore this evening after unidentified militants shot dead a youth in the town while Army recovered huge cache of arms near the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri, North Kashmir.
Sources said that militants this evening killed a youth, Waseem Meraj Malla son of Mehrajudin Malla resident Kranshawan Colony Sopore outside his house.
Sources said that two militants shot him from point blank range near a playfield and he was rushed to Sub-district hospital in a pool of blood and doctors declared him brought dead. The militants fled after killing the youth and security forces rushed to the area.
The Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Sopore and 52 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) of Army cordoned off the area and launched searches against the militants responsible for the killing of youth. However, no one was arrested.
Sources said that Army recovered two AK-56 and one AK-47 rifles and four pistols in Shadhra area of Kamal Kote near LoC in Uri today. “These weapons have recently arrived from Pakistan occupied Kashmir and were dumped here for infiltrators”, sources added.
Kamalkote has been traditional route for infiltration and was last year revived by the militants. Sources said that last year militants made several attempts to infiltrate from this sector.
In the meantime, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, North Kashmir, constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to trace Mushtaq Ahmad Changa who was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen in Sopore.
Kulsoma Begum (wife) resident of Hyder Colony Arampora Sopore lodged a complaint in Police Station Sopore stating that during the intervening night of January 28 and 29, some unknown gunmen dressed in police uniform entered in her house and kidnapped her husband Mushtaq Ahmad.
Police lodged a case FIR number 16/2014 under Section 365/RPC in Police Station Sopore and started investigations and searches to trace out the man.
The family has been protesting against his abducted and failure of police to trace out the youth.
A police spokesman said that on the directions of DIG NKR, J P Singh, a SIT was constituted under the close supervision of SDPO Sopore for speedy investigation of the case.
Police spokesman said that during the investigations it surfaced that the individual has been abducted by the militants. “Efforts are on to trace the abducted person is on”, the spokesman added.
In the meantime, curfew like restrictions continued for the second day today in South Kashmir’s Pulwama town after a Hizbul Mujahideen militant was killed in an encounter in Budgam district of central Kashmir on Wednesday.
Reports said that undeclared curfew like restrictions remained imposed in the town and its peripheries for the second day to prevent people from hold protests against the killing of HM militant Tausef Ahmad Dar.
Police and paramilitary troopers were deployed in Main Town Pulwama who restricted the movement of civilians. In Murran Chowk, unprecedented security arrangements were made, a day after violent clashes rocked the area in which around one dozen persons were injured.
In Dalipora area, some youth defied restrictions and clashed with the police and CRPF. However, no one was injured in the clashes.
Reports of clashes have also been received from Pakerpora area, where youth fought pitched battles with Police and CRPF.
A complete shutdown was observed in Prichoo, Kangan, Rajpora, Rahmoo, Kakpora, Neva, Pakerpora and other areas. However, situation remained by and large peaceful.
