Srinagar, Dec 19: Around half a dozen Youtubers today protested here against the internet shutdown which has been in place in Jammu and Kashmir for last four months.
The Youtubers assembled at the Press Enclave and demanded restoration of internet services in the Valley. They were carrying placards which read “Save our Future”, “Restore Internet” and raised slogans in support of their demands.

The protesters alleged that the decision to shut internet services busted the claims of the Government regarding the empowerment of youth. “The Government is always advising youth to show their talent and move forward. We have shown our talent and received good response from the people. People supported us but Government seems to be thinking otherwise. This is time to prove their claims. If they support us they should restore internet services. We are waiting for the restoration of internet for last four months and idling at home,” a youtuber said, adding that they used Youtube as a platform to build their future which looks bleak in absence of internet services.
Showkat Ahmad, admin of one of theYouTube channel, said that their livelihood is getting affected due to the internet shutdown. “I launched my channel after trying hard to get a Government job. First Government failed to provide jobs to educated youth, now they are pushing them to the wall by such decisions. Every sector is taking a hit,” he said.
They asked the Government to resume internet services if it is serious about the empowerment of youth. “Everything is normal now. Why are they hesitant to restore the internet services? By doing this they are destroying the future of youth here,” another protester said.
