JAMMU, Feb 13: Youth of Jammu city here today staged a protest demonstration demanding a playground at Bhagwati Nagar.
The protest was led by Partap Singh Jamwal and Bhanu Partap Goria wherein the protesters raised slogans in favour of their demand.
They demanded immediate construction of the playground to promote sports culture in Jammu.
Addressing protesters Pratap Singh claimed that the land allotted for the playground at Bhagwati Nagar has turned into filthy place where garbage of adjoining areas is being dumped thereby threatening public health.
He said that children of adjoining localities have no place to play as most of them come from poor families. “Apart from facing unemployment, the youth is also facing threat of drug addiction and sports activities may be the only solution to safeguard the youth from falling on wrong track,” he maintained.
Goria said that people have been requesting the authorities to convert a piece of JDA land available at Bhagwati Nagar into a playground but nothing has been done so far in this direction.
He urged upon J&K LG to look into the matter.
