JAMMU, Mar 3: A 21-day residential training programme for Yuva Aapda Mitra volunteers commenced at the Central Training Institute (CTI), Kot Bhalwal, here today.
The training aimed at preparing 100 volunteers from Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Ladakh, Chandigarh, and Jammu & Kashmir as “Master Trainers” under the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) initiative.
Inaugurating the programme, Commandant General HG/CD & SDRF J&K, SJM Gillani (DGP), highlighted the importance of the training, which is being conducted at seven locations across the country.
He emphasized that these trained volunteers will play a crucial role in disaster response, using basic rescue techniques to save lives.
During an interaction session, trainees shared their experiences in assisting the administration during emergencies in their respective states and UTs.
Praising their dedication, Gillani commended their selfless service in disaster relief and rescue operations.
He assured that all necessary arrangements had been made in coordination with the Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation & Reconstruction (DMRRR) J&K to ensure a smooth training experience.
Later, Gillani reviewed the facilities provided at the campus.
Several senior officers, including Atul Sharma, SSP, Staff Officer to Commandant General HG/CD & SDRF J&K; Zahid Naseem Manhas, SSP, Commandant SDRF 2nd Bn Jammu; Snober Jameel, Deputy Secretary, DMRRR J&K; and Dr Amir Hussain, CEO, Emergency Relief Organisation, DMRRR J&K, attended the event.
The programme concluded with a briefing by the Principal of CTI Kot Bhalwal, followed by a lunch for the trainees.
