The resignation of Manhas is another major setback to the Altaf Bukahri led Apni Party ahead of the assembly polls. In the recent past , two senior leaders of the party Usman Majid and Noor Muhammad quit the party.
“I have resigned from the Apni Party and this is what my workers wanted me to do,” Manhas said.
He said that he has yet to decide on his future plan.
“I have not joined any party yet. My workers will decide in the coming days whether I will join any party or contest election as an Independent candidate,” Manhas, a former MLC said.
Apni Party was formed by Altaf Bukhari months after the Centre abrogated Article 370.
Four years later the party is struggling to emerge as a political force in J&K. The party faced humiliating defeat in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls and its candidates lost their security deposit.
The Apni Party is accused by the rivals in Jammu and Kashmir of being a “proxy” of the BJP. However, the party has been denying any such link with BJP.
