JAMMU, May 11: Zonal Research and Extension Advisory Committee (ZREAC) Meeting for Kharif 2015 was held at Sher-e- Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST Jammu).
The Meeting was chaired by Prof. Pradeep K. Sharma, Vice Chancellor of SKUAST Jammu.
Prof P K Sharma, Vice Chancellor SKUAST-J, requested the Directors of Agriculture and allied Departments for ensuring maximum participation of the officers of their departments and for providing constant feedback of different technologies that are available with the University.
Prof. Sharma advised the scientist as well as the officers of the line departments to work for reducing the gap between the productivity potential and current productivity of major field crops in the state for enhancing the total productivity and to make state self sufficient in food grain production.
On this occasion he informed that University had established two advanced centers of research namely Advance Center of Rain-fed Research at Dhiansar and Advanced Center of Horticulture Research at Udheywala.
These advanced centers will be developing technologies compatible for rain-fed field crops and horticulture.
He further stressed upon the adoption of seed village concept with buy back arrangement for ensuring quality and timely availability of seeds and other planting material to the farmers.
Dr. K.S. Risam, Director Extension, SKUAST Jammu in his opening remarks said that the meeting was conveyed to finalize the research recommendations and identification of researchable issues in consultation with the agriculture and other allied departments.
Director Agriculture, Jammu, Dr. S .S. Jamwal and Director Floriculture, Jammu K.K. Sharma requested the University Scientists to work on issues relating to climate change, rain-fed agriculture, in-situ moisture conservation, poly-house protected cultivation technologies for quality planting and seed material of vegetables as well as other horticulture crops.
Heads of the different divisions of the Faculty of Agriculture of SKUAST-Jammu presented the new recommendations of the University for finalization.
Dr R K Arora, Associate Director Extension, SKUAST-J conducted the proceedings of the meeting and Dr R.R Jat, Associate Director Extension presented the vote of thanks.
