JAMMU, Feb 25: Pressing for framing of Settlement Policy for nomads, former Minister and Member Legislative Assembly Darhal Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali has toughen stand on eviction of Gujjars rejecting Magisterial inquiry and demanding judicial probe in the Sarore incident.
Addressing meeting of J&K Gujjar Conference, Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali has said that Gujjar and Bakerwal are most depressed class still living in grass covered Kulas and it is strange that they are being evicted even from these temporary sheds.
“This is a matter of concern and we must close our heads for future of this community”, he said demanding Settlement Policy for rehabilitation of houseless Gujjar and Bakerwal community.
Pinning hope on Governor for framing Settlement Policy for Gujjars, Zulfkar said that a deputation of Gujjar Conference will met Governor in the coming days and apprise him about the atrocities being faced by Gujjars and will demand permanent salutation of their problem.
He said that they are not against eviction drive but first Government has to come up with a Settlement Policy for nomads. “We are looking towards Governor in this regard and if the eviction drive is continued against Gujjars without framing of Settlement Policy, we will go ahead on the path of agitations in whole of the State”, Zulfkar warned.
Lauding the role of Gujjars, Zulfkar said that this community scarified their lives for the nation and also protected the country at borders but they are being given rough deal and even they have been deprived of basic facilities of life.
Rejecting Magisterial probe ordered by administration in Sarore incident, Zulfkar said that there is a need of thorough investigation into the matter. When HP Police was there to arrest somebody, what JDA was doing there? he asked and said that they will not accept magisterial inquiry and demanded immediate judicial probe.
Speaking on the occasion, former MLC Nizam-ud-Din Khatana said that Gujjars and Bakerwals of the State are united and they will fight for their cause. He said that if Governor will take the issue lightly, they will start mass agitation in the State.
President of J&K Gujjar Bakerwal Conference, Haji Mohammad Yousaf lambasted Governor administration over apathetic attitude towards Gujjars. He said that eviction drive should be started from Jammu where land mafia and influential people have occupied JDA land and innocent Gujjars must not be harassed.
