Zulfkar for stringent laws to check profiteering, overcharging

JAMMU, Mar 10: Minister for Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution, Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali has called for adopting reformative measures to streamline the functioning of the department.
The Minister was addressing the officers during a meeting held to take stock of availability of food grains in Kashmir valley here today.
The Minister directed the officers to make sure that essential commodities are dispatched to the public at the earliest  “Dispatch ration to the destinations by 10th of each month,” he asserted that in this regard a monitoring committee be constituted to look after the daily supply and distribution position.
The Minister directed for immediate supply of additional ration besides ensuring that the rationees get the commodities strictly as per scale and price fixed by the Government.
Referring to consumer awareness, the Minster asked the Director CAPD to create massive publicity about the price and scale of ration being given to different categories of public by the Government. He also asked for ensuring that the rate lists and the details of rationees are properly displayed in every sale outlet.
The Minister stressed upon the need to introduce stringent laws to keep a check on overcharging and profiteering besides ensuring quality supply. “This will help in plugging the pilferage at certain levels,” he added.
Regarding further reorganization of the department, the Minister directed the officers to work out a plan for strengthening and modernization of existing infrastructure of CAPD. He also asked for identification of all vacant posts in the department so that these could be filled up for better functioning of the department.
Among others Commissioner Secretary CAPD, Baseer Ahmad Khan, Director CAPD Kashmir, Deputy Director Kashmir and other senior officers were present in the meeting.
Earlier, a deputation of Gujjar and Bakkerwals called on the Minister and apprised him, of various issues related to their development and welfare.
Responding to demand of the tribals, the Minister asked for constituting a committee for conducting survey regarding the present status of basic amenities available to these sections of the society.
