Zulfkar presents report on losses in Doda, Kishtwar

JAMMU, Mar 25: Presenting report on the status of damages caused in far-flung and remote areas of Kishtwar and Doda due to recent rains and landslides, Minister for CA&PD and Tribal Affairs, Zulfkar Ali informed the Legislative Council that a team comprising Deputy Chief Minister, he himself and MLA from concerned area conducted an extensive tour of these affected areas to assess the losses on Tuesday.
The Minister informed that the team interacted with civil society and enquired about the losses. Besides, a meeting was also held with local administration of both the districts to review the relief and rehabilitation measures being taken up for the affected people.
The Minister further informed the House that there is sufficient stock of essentials available in almost all the areas of both the districts. However, the officers have been directed to ensure supply of ration and other commodities within next 2 days in Mankota and Kaljusar area of Kishtwar district where the supplies could not be made in time in view of heavy snowfall.
Referring to damaged power infrastructure in the district, the minister apprised that concerned officers of the NHPC have been asked to restore the power supply in next two days.
Zulfkar also informed that various areas of both the districts have suffered severe losses to property, livestock besides the developmental infrastructure has also been severely damaged.
He said that the necessary directions have been issued to Deputy Commissioners of both the districts to prepare a consolidated report regarding the total losses in their respective jurisdiction and submit the same within a day.
